2021 Ford Bronco Sport Capabilities
Enjoying The Wild In A 2021 Bronco Sport
The 2021 Bronco Sport is the smaller version of the new Bronco SUV. Ford outfitted each trim with standard all-wheel drive, loading the Bronco Sport with off-road capability. Along with the rugged exterior, the Bronco Sport also has plenty of versatile cargo space so active owners can bring along necessary gear.
To see what Ford Motor Company did with the latest iteration of the legendary Bronco, we invite you to visit our showroom at Group 1 Ford of Kennesaw. Our professional sales staff can show you the Bronco Sport and all of the trim levels.
Powertrain Choices And Capabilities
The Bronco Sport comes with two engine choices. The base engine is a 1.5L three-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can upgrade to a 2.0L four-cylinder with 245 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both engine choices are turbocharged, and they also come with eight-speed automatics. The 2.0L four-cylinder adds shifting paddles to the steering wheel.
The Bronco Sport in the First Edition and Badlands trims with the Class II towing package can tow up to 2,200 pounds. The smaller engine on the Big Bend and Outer Banks trims with the same towing package can tow up to 2,000 pounds.
The 1.5L engine gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. The 2.0L gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21 and 26 MPG.
Each Bronco Sport comes with new technology called G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) modes. Ford developed five modes: Sand, Slippery, Sport, Eco, and Normal. Buyers who choose the Badlands trim get two more modes: Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl.
Ground Clearance & Water Fording
As the Bronco Sport was designed to go off-road, Ford added Water-Fording capability and plenty of ground clearance. Buyers who add off-road tires get 23.6 inches of water fording, letting drivers maneuver through off-road trails with confidence.
The Bronco Sport Badlands model comes with optional 235/65R17 A/T Off-Road tires that provide a respectable ground clearance of 8.8 inches. So, along with fording through water, the Bronco Sport can also manage trails with rocks and dips.
Unique Off-Road Features
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport comes with unique engine power control for added off-road benefits. Ford developed Trail Control, which works like cruise control, but for off-roading. Drivers set the speed, then they focus on the obstacles. With the Badlands trim, drivers can use a 180-degree split-view camera to improve visibility while in the Mud/Ruts or Rock Crawl mode.
Along with Trail Control, Ford also added a Twin-Clutch Rear-Drive unit in the Badlands model. This unit improves torque by sending it to a single rear wheel, even if three others don’t have traction while off-road driving. This technology makes off-roading safer, especially when in an off-road G.O.A.T. mode.
Rugged And Safe
Not only did Ford engineer a rugged off-road vehicle with noteworthy power and drivetrains, but it also added several standard safety features included in the Ford Co-Pilot360 package. Each Bronco Sport comes standard with Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Information with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, Auto High-Beam Headlights, and a Rear-View Camera.
