Towing Capacity In The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
The Truck Of The Future Outdoing The Past
For decades, the Ford F-150 has been the top-selling truck in the United States. So, when Ford announced an electric version of the popular truck, the world listened. And, the big question was how would the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning compare to the gas-powered versions that dominate the roadways? The answer: the electrified version would be just as good, if not better.
Plenty Of Power & Towing Capacity For Work & Play
It turns out that removing the gas-powered motor improves the F-150’s power. The 2022 F-150 Lightning delivers up to 583 horsepower, while the gas-powered version delivers up to 450 horsepower. The Lightning comes with a Standard Range battery pack, but when equipped with the optional Extended Range battery, it will go from zero-to-60 in 4.5 seconds, which is faster than the 2017 Raptor, which reached 60 in 4.9 seconds.
Drivers often use their light-duty trucks to tow boats, campers, and trailers. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning towing capacity is 10,000 pounds. Compared to the several gas-powered models, this is better or equal. Rear-wheel drive Ford F-150 models with SuperCrew cabs equipped with the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 or the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 paired with 8-foot boxes can tow up to 14,000 pounds.
Payload Capacity Gets The Job Done
The payload capacity of the 2022 F-150 Lightning is also respectable. The electric vehicle is rated to hold up to 2,000 pounds in the truck bed. The gas-powered models have payload capacities between 1,410 and 3,325 pounds depending on the powertrain, cab style, and bed length.
Along with the payload capacity in the bed, the F-150 Lightning also has 400 pounds of cargo space in the frunk, where the engine used to be. The F-150 Lightning only comes with the 5.5-foot box with the same bed dimensions as the gas-powered models, however, the electrified truck itself is an inch longer and 1.7-inches taller than the gas-powered F-150. The 5.5-foot truck bed offers 52.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
Battery Packs For Towing And Range
To reach the 10,000-pound towing capacity and maximum horsepower, the F-150 Lightning needs the Extended Range battery pack that provides up to 300 miles of range. The Standard Range battery delivers 426 horsepower. Both batteries deliver 775 lb-ft of torque, which is 205 more lb-ft than the newest gas-powered motor, the PowerBoost hybrid V6.
Impressive Specs & Head-Turning Style
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning towing capacity, frunk space, and performance numbers are impressive. Despite being the truck of the future, Ford made sure to stick to its roots as this new truck is built on a high-strength, military-grade aluminum-alloy body and an all-new frame made of the strongest steel ever in an F-150 truck.
